Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley Teams With NBC Bay Area, Safeway for Annual Food Drive

Volunteers will be out in force on Saturday, November 15, encouraging shoppers to donate

Danville, CA—October 17, 2025—Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley (Kiwanis SRV) is once again teaming up with NBC Bay Area, Safeway grocery stores, and Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano to support the 16th annual Nourishing Neighbors Food Drive, running now through the end of 2025.

As a part of the campaign, NBC Bay Area and Safeway are conducting a united one-day food drive push on Saturday, November 15, when thousands of volunteers will be standing outside Safeway grocery stores throughout the Bay Area encouraging shoppers to make donations at the check-out counter to help combat hunger and food insecurity among our neighbors in need.

Kiwanis SRV is coordinating a team of more than 30 volunteers, including members of Kiwanis SRV, high school Key Club, National Charity League, Scouting America, and other community organizations, who will be outside four San Ramon Valley Safeway stores engaging shoppers, distributing flyers, and encouraging people to donate $10 toward the campaign at the check-out counter.

From 10am to 2pm, Kiwanis SRV volunteers will be outside the Safeway stores in Alamo at 200 Alamo Plaza; in Blackhawk at 3496 Camino Tassajara; and in San Ramon at both 2505 San Ramon Valley Blvd, and 11050 Bollinger Canyon Road.

Donating is as simple as asking the cashier to scan a bar code that identifies the donation amount, which is added to the receipt. Donated funds benefit the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, a long-time partner of Kiwanis SRV and hunger relief organization for the San Ramon Valley.

"We are incredibly grateful for all the Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley does for our organization,” said Caitlin Sly, President & CEO, Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. "They have supported us for many years, and we could not do our work without them. Their yearly commitment to making the Nourishing Neighbors campaign a success ensures the people we serve have a meal this holiday season.”

“Outside the stores, we remind shoppers that, while it's the season of celebration and giving thanks, there are still so many people in our own neighborhoods in need of something as basic as food,” said Nancy Bray, chair of the Kiwanis SRV 2025 Food Drive. "There are no food barrels — donations are made inside, at the cash register, making it easy to do so much for so many. In San Ramon Valley, our donations benefit the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, who is there, every day, helping people who are hungry, who are desperate, and who are in need of a helping hand.”

Although November 15 is the day of the big NBC Bay Area + Safeway food drive push, the Nourishing Neighbors campaign runs through the end of December, meaning anyone can make a donation to local hunger relief organizations at any Bay Area Safeway through the holidays to the end of the year. Since its inception in 2014, Nourishing Neighbors has delivered more than 1.3 billion meals and contributed more than $330 million to fight hunger and help insure that at-risk children, adults, seniors, and families have access to the food they need to live.

Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley Grants $38,650 to 27 Regional Nonprofits

Danville, CA—June 2, 2025—On May 22, 2025, the Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley (Kiwanis SRV) held its annual Grants Breakfast and distributed $38,650 to 27 local and regional nonprofits through its affiliated foundation, the San Ramon Valley Kiwanis Foundation. Since 1995, when Kiwanis SRV began its grants program, the organization has presented grants totaling more than $1,150,000 to more than 120 different Tri-Valley area nonprofit organizations. This year, among the 27 nonprofits to be awarded a grant, five are first time recipients.

Kiwanis SRV has been holding its annual Spring Grants Breakfast since 2001, a friendly, festive event attended by Kiwanis members, grant recipients, and invited guests, allowing the individual nonprofits to showcase the vital work they do for the (collectively) thousands of children, youth, and adults they serve.

Formed in 1956, Kiwanis SRV is a service organization dedicated to supporting Tri-Valley area communities through volunteerism and monetary grants to nonprofits that serve the needs of San Ramon Valley and neighboring communities. Based in Danville, California, the club is well-known for organizing and presenting the annual Kiwanis Danville 4th of July Parade, a long-standing tradition—now in its 50th year—that attracts more than 40,000 spectators each year. Funds raised through corporate and individual parade sponsorships go toward the Kiwanis SRV Grants Program, oftentimes funding projects and programs benefiting populations in need that would otherwise go unrealized.

The 2025 recipient nonprofits address a host of societal and individual issues including hunger, homelessness, mental health, literacy, foster care, prescription drug abuse, cancer diagnoses, youth volunteerism, and living with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, among other causes.

Recipients spoke of the partnerships among many of the nonprofits in the room, which doubled and tripled the impact of their grants by extending services to people served by partner nonprofits. Many spoke of the great number of communities touched by all the people in the room, and the importance of Kiwanis SRV’s financial support and advocacy, especially in these uncertain financial times for nonprofits.

"This grant completes a circle of care—where local love turns into healing,” said Ellen Bozzo, a board member of Culinary Angels, which provides free, nutrient-rich meals and nutrition education to individuals undergoing cancer treatment to support them during their cancer journey. "At Culinary Angels, our soups, broths, and nourishing meals do more than feed; they offer strength to cancer patients and relief to caregivers. We will use this grant  to not only deliver food, but also deliver hope—reminding our recipients that they are not alone. From Kiwanis to local farms and volunteers, it's all love in action."

Among the 27 recipients, Moment by Moment Photography provides free professional photography sessions to families of children facing life-limiting or chronic illnesses, capturing love, hope, courage, and determination. Diablo Valley Quilters create and donate children’s quilts and pillowcases to local charities working with children in hospitals. SonRise Equestrian Foundation works to improve the lives of children with special needs through therapeutic horse and ranch activities. Assistance League of the Bay Area encourages a passion for reading by distributing books and promoting literacy among children and families.

Winter Nights Family Shelter maintains a year-round Safe Parking Program, helping unhoused individuals and families living in their cars by offering a safe, supervised place to park their vehicles overnight. Meals on Wheels Diablo Region serves seniors in Contra Costa County by delivering nutritious meals, providing supportive services, and fostering social connections to help them live independently and with dignity. Sunflower Hill creates affordable housing and opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“This is the essence of Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley—who we are and what we do,” said David Stegman, a member of Kiwanis SRV since 1971. “What you see at our grants breakfasts is a joyful celebration of people and organizations that model kindness, compassion, and dedication to the people they serve. And while the recipients are thankful to us for the grants, we are so grateful to them for their work on behalf of children, youth, adults, and families in need. This is a great way to start the day.”
