Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley Grants $38,650 to 27 Regional Nonprofits
Danville, CA—June 2, 2025—On May 22, 2025, the Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley (Kiwanis SRV) held its annual Grants Breakfast and distributed $38,650 to 27 local and regional nonprofits through its affiliated foundation, the San Ramon Valley Kiwanis Foundation. Since 1995, when Kiwanis SRV began its grants program, the organization has presented grants totaling more than $1,150,000 to more than 120 different Tri-Valley area nonprofit organizations. This year, among the 27 nonprofits to be awarded a grant, five are first time recipients.
Kiwanis SRV has been holding its annual Spring Grants Breakfast since 2001, a friendly, festive event attended by Kiwanis members, grant recipients, and invited guests, allowing the individual nonprofits to showcase the vital work they do for the (collectively) thousands of children, youth, and adults they serve.
Formed in 1956, Kiwanis SRV is a service organization dedicated to supporting Tri-Valley area communities through volunteerism and monetary grants to nonprofits that serve the needs of San Ramon Valley and neighboring communities. Based in Danville, California, the club is well-known for organizing and presenting the annual Kiwanis Danville 4th of July Parade, a long-standing tradition—now in its 50th year—that attracts more than 40,000 spectators each year. Funds raised through corporate and individual parade sponsorships go toward the Kiwanis SRV Grants Program, oftentimes funding projects and programs benefiting populations in need that would otherwise go unrealized.
The 2025 recipient nonprofits address a host of societal and individual issues including hunger, homelessness, mental health, literacy, foster care, prescription drug abuse, cancer diagnoses, youth volunteerism, and living with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, among other causes.
Recipients spoke of the partnerships among many of the nonprofits in the room, which doubled and tripled the impact of their grants by extending services to people served by partner nonprofits. Many spoke of the great number of communities touched by all the people in the room, and the importance of Kiwanis SRV’s financial support and advocacy, especially in these uncertain financial times for nonprofits.
"This grant completes a circle of care—where local love turns into healing,” said Ellen Bozzo, a board member of Culinary Angels, which provides free, nutrient-rich meals and nutrition education to individuals undergoing cancer treatment to support them during their cancer journey. "At Culinary Angels, our soups, broths, and nourishing meals do more than feed; they offer strength to cancer patients and relief to caregivers. We will use this grant to not only deliver food, but also deliver hope—reminding our recipients that they are not alone. From Kiwanis to local farms and volunteers, it's all love in action."
Among the 27 recipients, Moment by Moment Photography provides free professional photography sessions to families of children facing life-limiting or chronic illnesses, capturing love, hope, courage, and determination. Diablo Valley Quilters create and donate children’s quilts and pillowcases to local charities working with children in hospitals. SonRise Equestrian Foundation works to improve the lives of children with special needs through therapeutic horse and ranch activities. Assistance League of the Bay Area encourages a passion for reading by distributing books and promoting literacy among children and families.
Winter Nights Family Shelter maintains a year-round Safe Parking Program, helping unhoused individuals and families living in their cars by offering a safe, supervised place to park their vehicles overnight. Meals on Wheels Diablo Region serves seniors in Contra Costa County by delivering nutritious meals, providing supportive services, and fostering social connections to help them live independently and with dignity. Sunflower Hill creates affordable housing and opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“This is the essence of Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley—who we are and what we do,” said David Stegman, a member of Kiwanis SRV since 1971. “What you see at our grants breakfasts is a joyful celebration of people and organizations that model kindness, compassion, and dedication to the people they serve. And while the recipients are thankful to us for the grants, we are so grateful to them for their work on behalf of children, youth, adults, and families in need. This is a great way to start the day.”

POPULAR KIWANIS 4th OF JULY PARADE TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS IN DANVILLE
More than 40,000 expected to line the parade route—Sponsorship Opportunities Available
Danville, CA—April 30, 2025—Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley (Kiwanis SRV) will be celebrating its 50th year as organizer and host of the historic 4th of July Parade, in partnership with the Town of Danville. The long-standing and hugely popular parade, which is Kiwanis SRV’s signature fundraising event, annually draws more than 125 parade entries and more than 40,000 spectators from local neighborhoods and regional communities, who line the parade route, 9am to noon, from San Ramon Valley High School south to Town and Country Drive for a day of fun and festivities. To recognize the 50th anniversary of the Kiwanis Danville Parade, this year’s parade theme is Celebrating 50 years of Community Service. Kiwanis has named the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, which is also celebrating its 50th year of community service, as the 2025 Parade Grand Marshal.
“Sponsoring the parade is a great way to get in front of more than 40,000 pairs of eyes—in front of people who shop, dine, play, and support deserving causes in Danville and the San Ramon Valley,” said David Stegman, the longtime Kiwanis SRV member who was instrumental, 50 years ago, in getting the club to take the reins of the then casual parade, which has grown to become a boon for the Town of Danville. “Sponsors get a good deal of positive publicity and visibility, while helping a lot of local nonprofits that do an extraordinary amount of good for our community."
Funds raised through parade sponsorships go toward the Kiwanis SRV Grants Program, which provides small grants to local nonprofits, oftentimes funding projects that would otherwise go unrealized. Since the 1990s, Kiwanis has awarded more than $1M in grants through the nonprofit San Ramon Valley Kiwanis Foundation, including $37,500 distributed in 2024 to 40 local and regional nonprofits.
Alamo Ace Hardware is the Presenting Sponsor of the 2025 Kiwanis Danville 4th of July Parade, and has been for the past ten years. “I grew up in this area and the parade was something to look forward to every year, as a child and as a community,” said Chris Kretz, managing member of family-owned Alamo Ace Hardware. "We opened our first store in Alamo in 2009 and entered a float in the parade, which was a lot of fun and brought attention to our store and our community support for Kiwanis and the local organizations they help. When we were given the opportunity to be the Presenting Sponsor of the Kiwanis Danville Parade, I jumped on it. 100%! It's important for us to be good stewards of the annual Kiwanis Danville Parade, and it's rewarding to be a part of such a wonderful local event, representing our community and our store at the same time."
Parade sponsors are showcased in promotional banners posted in town and published in advertisements weeks before the parade, as well as in parade signage, banners, and messaging during and after the parade. Sponsors are also invited to participate in the parade with a float or vehicle promoting their business or organization. Sponsorships are offered at different levels and, because they are received through the 501(c)(3) San Ramon Valley Kiwanis Foundation, they can be deducted as charitable contributions to the extent permitted by law.
Sponsor applications will be accepted through Monday, June 2. For more information about becoming a 2025 Kiwanis Danville 4th of July Parade sponsor and a list of sponsorship benefits, visit SRVKiwanis.org/parade or contact John Lineweaver, fundraising@SRVKiwanis.org.
